A screening camp was organized by Department of Public Health Dentistry at Donennahalli Village on 12th February 2020 from 10. 30 A.M to 12.30 P.M. A total of 10 subjects were screened. Appropriate referrals were made to the RRDCH and Chunchunkuppe PHC.
13th February is celebrated as the International Oral and Maxillofacial Day. The theme this year was “Raise the awareness and share your uniqueness to the world”. With the theme in mind, this year the Dept of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, RRDCH celebrated International OMFS Day. A small programme of various street plays and songs was conducted for the patients in our OPD to spread awareness about our specialty and the treatments that we provide. Number of posters were made about minor oral surgeries, trauma, orthognathic, oral oncology, cosmetic surgery and cleft lip and palate. The posters were explained in Kannada, English and Hindi for the understanding of the patients.
1)Oral surgery: A song was written by one of our PGs in Kannada about Oral and Maxillofacial surgery.
2) Minor Oral Surgery: Simple street play was enacted to explain about procedures like extractions and impactions.
3)Trauma: The patients were educated on road safety in the form of street plays with emphasis on reduction and fixation of jaws.
4)Orthognathic Surgeries: With help of posters and plays the patients were made aware of various orthognathic procedures done in our hospital.
5)Cosmetic Surgery: The patients were informed about the cosmetic procedures like Rhinoplasty, fillers, flaps etc that is performed by OMFS surgeons.
6)Oral Oncology: We educated the patients about the consequences of habits causing cancers and also explained about the surgical aspects and reconstruction options.
7)Cleft lip and Palate: Posters were made to explain about children with clefts and their surgical management.
Finally, the day was concluded with cutting of the cake in the Department with Staff, Post Graduates, Students and interns followed by lunch.

A screening camp was organized by Department of Public Health Dentistry at Kettohalli village on 29-1-2020 from 10.A.M to 12.45 P.M. A total of 25 subjects were screened. Appropriate referrals were made to the RRDCH and Chunchunkuppe Primary Health Center.

Professor, Department of Periodontology for having been recognized as Diplomates of ICOI (International Congress of Oral Implantologist) through the examination conducted at Colombo, Srilanka. Alumni of 1992 to 1996 were felicitated during Alumni meet 2020 held on 25.01.2020. 70 Alumni belonging to the 1992 to 1996 batches attended. The meeting started with Registration, Breakfast followed by College Tour. Later the formal meeting was presided over by the Chairman Dr. A. C. Shanmugam. Teachers of 1992 -96 were felicitated by the Alumni as well as by the College.
Every Alumni was honoured with a momento and rose. Dr. Arulyaselvi Alumni from Malaysia give her account and many spoke about their experiences during their student time.
The meet was followed by Lunch hosted by the Chairman at Rajarajeswari Medical College & Hospital and a General body meeting. It was decided to have the meet twice every year.
As every year, Jan 22nd, is observed as the “Prosthodontist Day”, a proud day for Prosthodontists all around the globe. The Department of Prosthodontics of RajaRajeswari dental college, Bangalore, a part of Rajiv Gandhi university of health sciences, observed the same with immense enthusiasm.
A cultural and art fest called “ProsthARTics’20”was conducted on 20th Janauray as a part of Prosthodontist day ,for the students including undergraduates, postgraduates, and faculties from all the dental colleges in and around Bangalore. A series of events were conducted for the general public to create awareness about our speciality.
As a part of Prosthodontist day celebration 2020 ProsthARTics intercollege event was organized on 20-01-2020. Regiration started at 8:30 am almost more than 200 participants from various dental colleges were registered
At 9:30 am programme was started with a welcome address by our beloved Head of the Department Dr Gautam Shetty, who threw light on the facts, figures and the milestones achieved by the Department through the year and on the importance of the competition. It was followed by a small video was presented to show the journey of Prosthodontic department from last Prosthodontist day to this Prosthodontist day.
Programme was inaugurated by lighting lamp by Dr Edwin Devdoss, Dean, vice principal Dr Rajkumar Alle , Dr Gautam Shetty Head and other staff members of the department. Dean addressed the gathering about importanc of Prosthodontist day and very well appreciated the programme.
A series of fun games and quiz event called “Decrypt prostho” was held at the Rajarajeswari Dental College auditorium with active participation from undergraduate and post graduate students from dental colleges across Bangalore. There were about 20 teams from various dental colleges. The event saw mass enthusiasm and some very intelligent responses bagging the best of prizes.
Later the day proceeded with organizing a “dance competition” called “Amplified Moves” where the participants were required to showcase their talent either through a group or a solo performance. There were opportunities to observe some extraordinary talent by our participants.
“Teeth arrangement” competition was organized named as “bite by byte” where the participants were given 90 minutes for entire class I teeth arrangement followed by carving, festooning and polishing. There were about 50 enteries from various dental colleges.
One more competition named “Precision attachment” was conducted wherein participants were asked to make art out of dental materials . More then 25 spectacular art works were made out of dental materials. The arrangements and arts were judged by Dr Harish P V and other judges, expert in the field of Prosthodontics and the best ones were awarded.
The valedictory function was attended by Dr. Srivatsa G, IPS President Bengaluru and also the Principal of KLE Society’s Institute of Dental Sciences; Dr. Ananda Krishna G N, secretary of IPS Bengaluru branch, senior Prosthodontist; Dr Prafulla Thumati past President of IPS head office; Dr.Edwin Devadoss, Dean(RRDCH) ; Dr.Rajkumar Alle, Vice Principal (RRDCH),President (KSDC) and Dr Harish senior prosthodontist. Dr Srivatsa G IPS Bangalore branch President briefed about the importance of the competition which was followed by prize distribution.
On Prosthodontist day 22-01-2020 , the day began with patient awareness and education in the form of street play at RRDCH satellite centre, Chunchanakuppe, Chandrappa Circle-Community Health Centre, around 17 km from the college with display of placards and banners which read of awareness about our speciality, various replacement modalities, govt schemes and super speciality practices happening in the department. Active participation by the Head of the Department, Dr. Gautam Shetty, faculty, all post graduates and interns posted in the department was observed.
A well formulated street play was performed which included education and awareness about prosthodontics to general public in Kannada (the local language). We received huge response in the form of crowd that showed up to witness the same.
This was followed by denture insertion in Department of Prosthodontics where 25 complete dentures were inserted on the same day for the patients. The event was inaugurated and appreciated by our honourable Dean of the college, Dr Edwin Devadoss and Dr. Savita S,Principal (RRDCH).
The street play was once again performed at the OPD area of the college for patient awareness followed by an entertaining dance performance by the staff and post graduates of the Department of Prosthodontics.
For patient education, a health talk was organized by the second year post graduate students of the department in the local language assisted with audio visual aids to enhance knowledge on geriatric nutrition & use & maintenance of removable & fixed prostheses.
A few of the patients were felicitated during the event as a gesture of gratitude by the doctors as we all know “A doctor is a good or a bad doctor only because of his patient”. A few of the patients also took self-initiatives to come forward at the dias and say a few words about their before and after treatment experience.it was a moment of immense satisfaction for all doctors, especially prosthodontists present there to see their patients brimming with joy post treatment.
A free denture camp was conducted at Solur, Kunigal Taluk, Tumkur district, Karnataka, 70 km from RRDCH, Bangalore. Forty completely edentulous patients with poor economic background were educated, motivated and successfully rehabilitated with complete dentures as a part of Prosthodontist day
The event ended with a warm vote of thanks to one and all who made it all a huge success.
We are proud to announce that the following Undergraduates of our institution has secured University Ranks in Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Science BDS Examination.

Makara Sankrathi and Pongal was celebrated with gaity on 17th January 2020 at Rajarajeswari Dental College & Hospital by students and staff. Traditional attire was seen everywhere. The college wore a festive look with flowers & sugarcane. Pongal was cooked in a traditional way by staff and served to all with vada.
Pot breaking blind folded, singing of sankrathi and pongal songs in all Indian languages and kite flying were organized. Ellu Bella was shared among the participants.
Dean and Vice Principal spoke about the importance of farmer who feeds the man kind and urged students to take up causes of farmers whenever they are in need.
