Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology >> Overview

The department of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology, focuses on the nature, identification and management of diseases affecting the oral and maxillofacial regions as well as associated structures. This speciality is a confluence of basic sciences and clinical dentistry where UG and PG students learn the conduct of routine blood and urine
analysis and histopathological examinations. The department is also actively conducting research in HIV-AIDS, laser induced wound healing, karyotyping, molecular studies and Oral cancer using advanced immuno-histochemical methods, besides the micro-biological aspects of oral infections.

The modern histopathological and microbiological lab is equipped with semi automatic microtome, tissue processor, research and penta head microscopes, labs for UG and PG students. A pathology museum with a collection of over 2000 histopathology slides and rare specimens supplements the vast array of specialized texts and journals available with the department Over 60 National and International Publications have been done by the staff. Many papers were presented at international conferences by them.

Future plans include making this a Ph.D center, inviting national conferences and make the department as a Diagnostic Center for nearby practicing dentists.
