The Department of Public Health Dentistry – RRDCH in
association with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MOHFW) was
invited to be a part of the National Oral Health Program (NOHP) screening and
treatment camp organized at, Kirugavalu – Maddur taluk, Mandya District on
the occasion of WORLD CANCER DAY- 06 th Feb 2023.
A team of 12 doctors including faculty (Dr. Prasanna Kumar Y S, Professor),
postgraduate students, and interns of the Department of Public Health Dentistry
– RRDCH, attended the camp. A total of 747 patients were screened and 93
patients benefited from treatments including extraction and fillings, which
were carried out in the Mobile Dental Unit of RRDCH.

We, the Prosthodontists of Rajarajeswari Dental College and Hospital, are immensely happy and proud to share the glimpse of Prosthodontist’s day in a week-long celebration that was held from the 17th to 25th of January, 2023.
It was extremely gratifying to see students from I BDS to PGs and faculty of all the specialities taking active participation in creating awareness and highlighting the importance of speciality of Prosthodontics.
We greatly thank and appreciate our beloved Dean, Dr Edwin Devadoss sir, our Principal, Dr. Rajkumar Alle sir, our ever-enthusiastic HOD, Dr Shwetha Poovani ma’am, faculty and postgraduate students of the department of Prosthodontics, in making this week-long celebration a grand success.

TOPIC- MANAGEMENT OF RADIOLUCENT LESIONS IN THE MAXILLOFACIAL REGION
Radiolucent lesions in the maxillofacial region are common entity in the field of dentistry. Initial clinical representation including examination, radiographic and histopathological investigations conclude the diagnosis. Treatment always depends on the patient’s age, general health status, anatomical area of involvement, vicinity or involvement of vital structures. Treatment ranges from most conventional methods like enucleation, decompression, dredging till aggressive methods like resection of the involved bone followed by reconstruction. This Interdepartmental meet aimed to highlight various radiolucent lesions treated in both the conservative and surgical methods in the department with the follow up of all the cases. It was presented by final MDS students of our department.

Eligibility criteria, guidelines and committed activities were explained to them by the Chairperson, member coordinators.

A team of 12 doctors including faculty (Dr. Jayachandra M Y, Reader), postgraduate students, and interns of the Department of Public Health Dentistry – RRDCH, attended the camp. Approximately 175 patients were screened and 20 people benefited from treatments including extraction and fillings, which were carried out in the Mobile Dental Unit of RRDCH. The program was well received and acknowledged by the beneficiary patients and concerned authorities.

Welcoming the 31st Batch of BDS students to Rajarajeswari Dental College and Hospital happened on 16.12.2022.
After the routine inaugural ceremonies, the senior student welcomed the New Batch of Junior with roses. The Principal and Dean made speeches.
Dr. Srinidhi Former Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery of Rajarajeswari Dental College and Hospital and present President of IDA Karnataka State made a presentation of “Prospects of BDS Graduates”. He explained in details what are the possible values for their gainful employment and further studies.

The function concluded with National Anthem and Tea.

CDE and hands on course was conducted by Department of Implantology for the Interns and Postgraduates. The programme included lectures by Dr.Anjan Shah, Dr.Mamatha.N.S., Dr.Rithesh.K, Dr.Rohit. S and Dr.Srilakshmi.The lectures focused on basics of implants, surgical principles and treatment planning followed by demo and placement of implant on dummy mandibles by the participants.

Christmas was celebrated at Rajarajeswari Dental College and Hospital on 27.12.2022. the entire campus was decorated beautifully and lit colourfully. Everyone wore Red, White, Green Dresses symbolizing X-mas.
Formal function began with devotional “Keerthana” from the Christian Hymnal. Dean welcomed the gathering. He talked about relevance of Religious celebrations of all faith which inculcate virtues among people. Executive Director Dr. Vijayanand who was the Chief Guest was felicitated by Principal Dr. Rajkumar. S. Alle. The Chief Guest cut the X-mas cake and wished ever one.
Mr. Joseph Ponraj Director Gerizim Foundation and NGO Houses Mentally Challenged orphans brought X-mas message. He outlined the importance of JESUS in everyone’s life.
Later Executive Director donated 43 Blankets to the Orphanage on behalf of the Chairman.
A colourful X-mas pagent and carols were followed in which many students and Interns participated.
The function ended with distribution of cake and snacks and Borne fire and further singing.

16th Batch PG Inauguration program was held on 05.12.2022 36 newly joined PG’, HOD’s, and all other teaching faculty participated in the program. Principal welcomed the gathering. Dean congratulated the students for taking admission in RRDCH. Our own alumni and Senior lecturer in the department of Periodontology Dr.Sharika Gopinath spoke about her experience how happy she is for being of this College as a student and now as a faculty. The program concluded with vote of thanks.

Maxillofacial abnormalities are described as congenital structural deformities, malformations or other abnormalities of the maxilla, face or facial bones, which can affect the shape of the face and personal appearance and can lead to psychological and emotional problems such as lack of self-confidence,low self-esteem and poor quality of life.
Maxillofacial prosthodontics is that particular branch of dentistry that treats congenital and acquired defects of the head and the neck regions which involves replacement, management and restoration of lost functions of the missing structures. This is a multidisciplinary approach where it is necessary to integrate with different health professionals.
With this as a background the objectives of the presentation included a brief overview on the types of maxillofacial defects, the types and classification of prostheses and the methods of retention. An array of cases rehabilitated successfully in the department of prosthodontics were discussed such as orbital defects, ocular defects, interim obturators, definitive obturators, closed intraoral defects, hemi mandibular defects and those rehabilitated using zygomatic implant retained prostheses. The additional retention aids required for extraoral prostheses and the digital workflow in maxillofacial prostheses were discussed along with its classifications and indications.
