CDE Programme – Laser Dentistry – Clinical Applications

A one day Lecture cum Hands on course on “Laser Dentistry – Clinical Applications” was conducted by Department of Conservative Dentistry & Endodontics of Rajarajeswari Dental College & Hospital on 11.02.2019.

Dr. Sana Farista, MDS renowned Laser Specialist from Bombay was the Main speaker and conductor of Hands on.

Interns, P.G.’s and Staffs attended the programme. After an informative lecture Dr. Sana Farista demonstrated Hard Tissue and Soft Tissue use in various Dental problems.

The programme was sponsored by Biolase – Unicorn Denmart.

Women’s Day Celebration 2019

International Women’s Day is celebrated globally on 8 March every year in honour of their remarkable contribution to our society. The day also, commemorates the inspiring role of women around the world to secure women’s rights and build more equitable societies.

Rajarajeswari Group of Institution is also celebrating the “International Women’s Day” by conducting Inter Collegiate Sports “RRGI’s WOMENS PREMIER LEAGE – WPL” Bangalore Zone Women’s Sports Tournament.

Rajarajeswari Group of Institutions are conducting Awareness and Hygiene programs like:

Good Touch and Bad Touch awareness for school students by Rajarajeswari College of Nursing
Distribution of sanitary napkins and Personal Hygiene by Rajarajeswari Dental College and Hospital
Dental Hygiene for villagers by Rajarajeswari Dental College and Hospital
Breast & Cervical Cancer Awareness program and screening by Rajarajeswari Medical College and Hospital
Distribution of Purple Ribbons for all the women for women empowerment at Rajarajeswari Medical College and Hospital Campus.
Nutrition and Fitness (Aerobics) sessions

and many more women oriented programs have been organised by RRGI group of Institutions.

ALL THE WOMEN STAFF FROM THE MEDICAL, DENTAL, ENGINEERING, NURSING AND PHHYSIOTHERAPY COLLEGES IN BANGALORE ARE REQUESTED TO TAKE PART AND MAKE THIS CELEBRATION A GRAND SUCSESS.

As a part of International Women’s Day celebration by the Rajarajeswari group of institutions (RRGI), the Department of Public Health Dentistry, Rajarajeswari dental college and hospital, organized a health awareness drive among the rural women folk of ketohalli, Ganapathi halli &Ganapathi halli colony with emphasis on ‘menstrual hygiene’ and proper usage and disposal of sanitary pads. With the help and support of the Anganwadi and ASHA workers of these villages, a door to door campaign was done by the interns , postgraduates and women staff of Public Health Dentistry. The target group mainly consisted of women of child bearing age group (15-45 yrs) and also adolescent girls of ages 13 yrs and above. They were made aware of healthy practices, personal hygiene during menstruation, taboos and myths surrounding menstruation were clarified, problems associated with menstruation, importance of diet, iron deficiency and its impact on menstruation were stressed upon.
With the help of RRGI , and the cooperation of the ASHA workers , Anganwadi workers of these villages, free sanitary pad distribution was also undertaken to these women.
Also, Group D and Auxiliary staff of RRDCH were educated on menstrual hygiene and they were also provided with free sanitary pads.

CDE Programme – Basic implantology with hands on training for interns

CDE programme was arranged for interns on “Basic Implantology” with hands on training in association with Alpha Biotech company.
Lectures were conducted on 4th February 2019.

The objective of the programme was to give an insight on the different aspects of implantology for beginners.A hands on workshop was conducted following the lectures on the 5th and 6th of February 2019.The total number of participants were 92. There was enthusiastic participation from the audience with didactic group discussion and one on one doubt clearing sessions. The hands on course workshop was conducted in groups of 10 participants each over 2 days. Under guidance each participant placed one implant in the prosthetic jaw. The overall CDE programme was a grand success which benefitted all the participants. Feedback was collected from every participant. A few participants wrote testimonials about the programme.

A screening and Health Education camp for Cancer was organized by Department of Public Health Dentistry for the Teachers and other faculty at St. Benedicts Institution, Anchepalya, Kengeri on 4th February 2019 from 10.A.M to 1.00 P.M. A total of 80 staff were screened and Dental Health Education was given by the PG students and staff-in charge.

Prosthodontics Day

Prosthodontics Day

As every year, Jan 22nd,2019 observed as the “Prosthodontists’ day”, a proud day for prosthodontists all around the globe. The department of prosthodontics of Rajarajeswari dental college, Bangalore, observed the same with immense enthusiasm.
An art fest called “prosthARTics” was conducted for the students, including under and post graduates, faculty and staff from all other departments and a series of events was conducted for the general public to create awareness and enhance interest in the subject.
1. A basic “prosthodontic quiz” called “Decrypt prostho” was held at the department.

2. A “teeth arrangement” competition named as “bite by byte” was organized where the participants were given 90 minutes for entire class I teeth arrangement followed by carving, festooning and polishing.

3. A “collage competition” called “precision attachment” was organized and the participants were required to make a collage on the topic “geriatrics going the young way” which was given on spot to the participants.
4. A wax block carving competition called “Carve off spee” was organized where a theme was not given but the participants were left to be creative behind their carver and a miniature wax block.
5. A Rangoli competition called “Hues” was organized as the combination of colors still have an impact on our minds. The topic given for the competition was “decoding prosthodontics: a magical mystery”.

6. A “public awareness” programme prepared by the department of Prosthodontics was held on Jan 29th,2019.
The day began with a walkathon with display of placards and banners which read of awareness about the profession. Active participants by the head of the department, faculty & staff, all post graduates and interns posted in the department was observed. A well formulated street play was performed which included education and awareness about prosthodontics to general public in the local language.
Denture insertion in the department was done where 50 complete dentures were inserted on the same day for the patients. The event was inaugurated and appreciated by our honorable chief guest, Dr Prafulla Thumati sir and our dean of the college Dr Edwin Devadoss.
We followed the day with an enlightening speech by our beloved head of the department Dr Gautam Shetty sir, who threw light on the facts and figures and the milestones achieved by the department throughout the year.
Our chief guest, Dr Prafulla Thumati who is also an expert in the orofacial pain department along with being an experienced prosthodontist for over 25 years, then threw light on the heights that the subject has reached, its importance and future prospects.
A release of Prosthodontic calendar which was made by the efforts of final year BDS students was done by our respected Dean sir.
Event was followed by a few more motivational speeches by our principal & vice principal followed by which a valedictory function was held to felicitate all winners.
For patient education, a health talk was organized by the second year post graduate students of the department in the local language assisted with audio visual aids to enhance knowledge on geriatric nutrition & use & maintenance of removable & fixed prostheses.
A few of the patients were felicitated during the event as a gesture of gratitude by the doctors as we all know “a doctor is a good or a bad doctor only because of his patient”. A few of the patients also took self-initiatives to come forward at the dais and say a few words about their before and after treatment experience. It was a moment of immense satisfaction for all doctors, especially prosthodontists present there to see their patients brimming with joy post treatment.

The event ended with a warm vote of thanks to one and all who made it all a huge success.

A screening camp was organized by Department of Public Health Dentistry at St. Benedicts Primary and High School, Anchepalya, Kengeri on 4th February 2019 from 10.A.M to 1.00 P.M. A total of 120 school children’s were screened. Dental Health Education was given using Dental Health Education models to all screened children by the PG students and staff-in charge. Appropriate referrals were made to the RRDCH.

A total of 350 Participants from various villages in and around Kunigal were screened for various oral diseases, health education was given and 50 participants received treatment. Appropriate referrals were made to the Rajarajeswari Dental college and Hospital.

A screening camp was organized by Department of Public Health Dentistry at ST. BENEDICT ACADEMY , ANCHEPALYA on 28th January 2019. A total of 146 school children from classes4 through 1 were screened for various oral diseases, health education was given, also a demonstration of oral hygiene methods was given. Appropriate referrals were made to RRDCH.

A CDE Program (lecture) was organized by Department of Research and Publication, Rajarajeswari dental college and hospital in collaboration with Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology, Bengaluru on 29th Jan 2019.

This program was approved by Karnataka state dental council and 2 Credit points were allotted.

The event was attended by 60 delegates which included Teaching faculty and Post graduates of the institution

Republic Day Celebrations

70th Republic Day was celebrated at Rajarajeswari Dental College & Hospital with Flag Hoisting at 9.00 am by Principal Dr. S. Savita, Dean, CAO, Staff and Students enthusiastically participated.

Dean gave his speech and emphasized the importance of the day and urged students to make it a point to attend Independence day and Republic Day celebration inspite of both being Government Holidays.

To mark the occasion the new lift of Ladies Hostel was inaugurated.
