A CDE program on Digitally Integrated Dentistry with live demonstration & hands-on program on making Digital Impressions using Intra Oral Scanners was conducted by the Department of Prosthodontics on 17th September 2021, as a part of the faculty sensitization programme and value added programme for the postgraduates of prosthodontics ,conservative & orthodontics department.

The programme was divided into 3 parts-

The first session included a detailed lecture on “Digitally Integrated Technology” which was attended by more than 200 delegates.

The programme was moderated by Dr Srilakshmi J followed by introduction of the guest speaker Dr Shivashankar by Dr Maria . The program was graced by our Respected Dean, Dr Edwin Devadoss, beloved Principal Dr Rajkumar S Alle, and our beloved HOD Dr Shwetha Poovani, all the Heads and Faculties of all the Departments, Undergraduate & Post graduate students.

The esteemed speaker for the programme was Dr Shivashankar, MDS Professor and CAD CAM trainer in Department of Digital Dentistry at Bapuji Dental College & Hospital. Vote of thanks was rendered by Dr Prajna Shetty.

The lecture highlighted mainly the digital developments & application of digital technology in various specialities of dentistry. Each area of digital dentistry has advantages & simplifies the work of the dentist, the technician & and better understanding of treatment plan for the patient. Yet some of the advantages may be diminished by the increased cost & technique sensitivity. The speaker even highlighted with his extensive knowledge & hands-on experience in various international laboratories about understanding the future of dental technology in other industries and how the technology can be integrated into dentistry & stressed upon how our faculty should become a part of these advances in the early majority.

It was an informative & interactive session an exuberant exchange of Knowledge between the participants and the speaker along with live demo & hands -on.

The second session started with the live demonstration on patient where the intra oral scanner & the software was explained . In detail the live scanning was shown on single unit tooth preparation / quadrant & full arch for long span prosthesis was demonstrated. Virtual occlusal relation recording was performed and software aided designing was demonstrated with respect to Cast Partial Denture, Implant prosthesis & digitalized smile dentures were demonstrated on models.

The third session involved hands-on experience of using intra oral scanner by various speciality staff & post graduates which included scanning of tooth preparation models for single & multi unit prosthesis for prosthodontic & endodontic purpose. Full arch scanning with digital placement of orthodontic brackets and specialized scanning & designing for implant prosthesis using scan body refinement of digital impressions were performed.

The faculties & the post graduates were sensitized to the digital impression making. The advantages & disadvantages of analogue technique and digital technique was discussed with the mentor of the program. The post graduates also discussed their thesis & cases regarding the digital technology implementation & gained insight into the advanced technology.

World Bamboo Day is celebrated on September 18 every year, 2009 onwards, to increase awareness about bamboo around the globe. In India, many regions boast the use of bamboo in different ways, but most importantly in food.
