Sankranthi / Pongal Celebrations 2022
Makara Sankrathi and Pongal was celebrated with gaity on 14th January 2022 at Rajarajeswari Dental College & Hospital by students and staff. Traditional attire was seen everywhere. The college wore a festive look with flowers & sugarcane. Pongal was cooked in a traditional way by staff and served to all with vada. Ellu Bella was shared among the participants.
Dean and Principal spoke about the importance of farmer who feeds the man kind and urged students to take up causes of farmers whenever they are in need.

Inauguration of additional OPG Cephalogram ‘ORTHOPHOSE’
We are happy to inform that an additional OPG Cephalogram Machine unit “ORTHOPHOSE” from Dentsply Sirona to cater the increasing demand of patients has been inaugurated by our honourable Chairman of #RRGI, Shri. A C Shanmugam on 27-12-2021, Monday at the Department of #oralmedicineandradiology. The event was organized in an august presence of respected Executive Director, Dean Sir, Principal, Vice Principal and PG Director.
The new unit is equipped with two separate digital sensors with tube head version2.0 using CSI/CMOS technology and Sidexis 4.3.1 software version. The unit is provided with imaging modalities like Panaroma views, Lateral cephalogram, Hand wrist radiograph, Skull projections and TMJ projections. This adds the existing array of OPG / CEPH, CBCT, RVG’s, Vista Scans and Tech Scans available at Rajarajeswari Dental College & Hospital
CDE on Advanced Engineering in Prosthodontics
A CDE programme was conducted by the Department of Prosthodontics on 5TH January 2022, as a part of continual development programme.
The programme was inaugurated by our Beloved Dean, Dr Edwin Devadoss and our respected Principal Dr Rajkumar Alle.The programme was also graced by the presence of our HOD, Dr Shwetha Poovani, and all the Heads, Senior Professors and Faculties of respective Departments.
Dr Midhula V introduced the guest speaker. The esteemed speaker for the programme was Wg.Cdr.Dr.Peter Devadoss, MDS, MIMSA, Classified specialist in Prosthodontics presently serving in Air force Dental Centre Delhi. Dr.Peter Devadoss had been awarded with the Chief of Air staff Commendation Badge for exemplary contribution to dentistry in Indian Air Force in 2014.He has a keen interest in research areas such as Implant dentistry and Advanced Digitalized Dentistry .He is an Alumini of our esteemed institution in the Department of Implantology .
The Topic for the CDE was Advanced Engineering in Prosthodontics. The CDE programme highlighted the Importance of advanced digital dentistry and its clinical application used in treatment modalities such as fixed restorations, Implant prosthesis cranial prosthesis and maxillofacial Prosthodontics. The programme mainly focused on digitalized and advanced Full mouth rehabilitation with implants to completely restore the esthetics, phonetics, mastication and over all well being of stomatognathic system.
The programme was a huge success with 114 participants .A good feedback was received from various heads of the departments, faculties and post graduate students. The session was well moderated by Dr Prajna P Shetty.
It was an interactive session an exuberant exchange of Knowledge between the participants and the speaker. A memento was given as a token of appreciation to the guest speaker by Respected Dean sir, Principal Sir. Finally the session was concluded by Dr.Shreya with vote of thanks.

This talk highlights on the site-specific infectious disease called periimplantitis
associated with osseointegrated dental implant and their management.
The Periimplantitis is a progressive bone loss associated to clinical inflammation and it is not a rare finding nowadays. Also enlighten the healthy periimplant soft and hard tissues are required for the stability and the survival of dental implants. This talk enlightens the listener on the management of periimplantitis that has been seen to yield the results

Appreciation certificate was awarded to the guest speaker. The program was a grand success with a good interactive session with the participants and speaker. 2-Day Workshop on BLS
The Emergency Handling Team conducted a 2-day workshop on BLS training for the outgoing interns on 10th and 11th November 2021. The day was inaugurated by our Dean Sir, Dr. Edwin Devadoss by emphasizing the importance of handling medical emergencies effectively.
On day 1, a lecture on Basic Life Support and Cardiopulmonary resuscitation was delivered by Dr. Mamatha. Following this, the interns were divided into 2 batches and the first batch attended hands-on workshop. A demonstration for performing CPR was given by the team members and each of the intern were given opportunity to perform CPR on the mannequin under the supervision of the trainers. On day 2, the team members delivered lectures on handling and management of various medical emergencies that could occur in a dental practice. The following medical emergencies were addressed
1. Syncope and Asthma by Dr. Shreya
2. Hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, Hyperglycemia, Hypoglycemia, anticoagulants and renal diseases by Dr. Rohit S.
3. Hyperventilation by Dr. Annapoorna K.
4. Hypertension and foreign body inhalation by Dr. Savita S.
5. Anaphylaxis by Dr. Poornima C.
6. Vital signs, Emergency drugs and seizures by Dr. Shwetha G. S.
Following these lectures, the second batch of interns were given demonstration of CPR by the team members. Each intern then performed CPR on the mannequin under the supervision of the trainers. A total number of 74 interns and 4 new appointed staff were trained in BLS in this programme. Feedback was collected from the participants.

Basic Life Support Training Programme

A BLS and CPR training programme was conducted for the out-going interns. The programme started at 10 am by an introductory talk by the Principal, Dr. Rajkumar S. Alle, who highlighted the importance of handling medical emergencies in the dental practice. Following this, all members of the Emergency Handling Team made a power point presentation of various medical emergency conditions. All presentations highlighted the protocol to be followed to manage the emergency. Dr. Shwetha G. S. made a demonstration of CPR on the mannequin. The interns were divided into batches of 10 each for the hands-on workshop. The interns then performed CPR on the mannequin under the supervision of the team. A total of 28 interns registered for the event. The interns were given a chance to clarify their queries during the questionnaire session. A feedback was obtained from all the participants. Analysis of the feedback indicated that the programme was a success.

A Basic Life Support (BLS) and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training programme was conducted by the Emergency Handling Team for the newly admitted post graduate students. The post graduate students were divided into batches of 10-15. Each batch received a lecture and hands-on demonstration at once. The session opened with a presentation by Dr. Mamatha N. S. She highlighted the various medical emergencies that can happen either on the dental chair or any other place. She explained the procedure to manage each of these emergencies. This was followed by a demonstration of CPR by Dr. Shwetha G. S. She explained the various steps involved in CPR and performed CPR on a mannequin. The students also performed CPR on the mannequin under the supervision of the Emergency Handling Team.

An Inter-college Continuing Dental Education (CDE) programme was jointly organized by Thai Moogambigai Dental College and Hospital and Rajarajeswari Dental College and Hospital on 26th June 2021 at 11.00 am. The online programme was on Google meet with a meeting link https://meet.google.com/ueo-gxsb-tnk.
The speaker was Mrs. Karuna Madhu Sona, Patent and Trademark Attorney. She discussed in detail the types of intellectual property, types of patent applications, patentable and non-patentable inventions, copyright, trademarks, and geographical indications. The presentation was followed by a question-and-answer session, in which the speaker addressed all practical problems faced during applying for patency. A total of 40 participants attended the online session.
CDE on 3D Printing in Restorative Dentistry & Endodontics

All staffs and fellows of implantology actively participated adding up to a total of 12 participants. Appreciation certificate and Participation certificate were awarded. The programme was a success followed by interactive sessions with the speaker and the speaker.
