Catalyst For Tissue Repair “Platelet Concentrates”

Catalyst For Tissue Repair “Platelet Concentrates”

Date: 09-12-2024
Platelet concentrates (PCs) are widely used in medicine and dentistry for their ability to stimulate angiogenesis and enhance tissue regeneration. In dentistry, PCs have gained popularity as a regenerative therapy because they are derived from the patient’s own blood, providing high concentrations of platelets, growth factors, and leukocytes. Its production involves collecting autologous blood from the patient and immediately centrifuging it to activate platelets and induce fibrin polymerization. The centrifugation process creates a complex three-dimensional scaffold that concentrates various cellular components, including platelets, growth factor (such as VEGF, PDGF, TGF-β1, EGF, IGF-I, and HGF), leukocytes, and cytokines, all crucial for regeneration and wound healing.
It is applicable in various clinical settings, including periodontal regeneration, alveolar ridge preservation, sinus lifts, plastic and reconstructive surgery. Today’s platelet concentrates are much more effective than their predecessors in terms of biological efficacy and preparation methods.
