Course Overview
Periodontics is a branch of dentistry that is concerned with diseases affecting the tissues and structures that surround teeth. The Department of Periodontology started at RRDCH in the year 1992 with post-graduation progam starting from the year 2007. From the time of its inception till the present, the department is involved in training undergraduate students by empowering them in the diagnosis and management of patients with periodontal disease. Similarly, the postgraduate program aims at producing specialists competent in teaching, research as well as clinical skills. The postgraduate students have access to a wide variety of clinical material and highly experienced faculty which enable them to hone their skills and become competent Periodontists. The department has ensured availability of the latest equipment such as electrocautery units, diode laser unit, centrifuge, microsurgical loupes, etc. so that the students are abreast with the latest technology available in the specialty. The postgraduates are also encouraged to place implants in the Department of Implantology with a dedicated staff in the department to help them plan and execute the treatment protocol. The department is also a recognized PhD centre with students pursuing the same under the able guidance of Prof. (Dr)S.Savita. All the above courses are recognized by the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka. The department also conducts CDE Programs, Symposiums, Value Added Courses,Pre-conference courses, Pre-examination review courses among others for the benefit of the students. Majority of the staff have done additional academic/clinical courses and the department has to its credit several publications in renowned national/international journals as well as won several awards at various conferences. Overall, the department strives to achieve excellence both in the academic/clinical realm and ensure the students who pass out are able dentists who can serve society.
