CONTENT: The Department of Public Health Dentistry, Rajarajeswari Dental College and Hospital in association with the Department of Research and Publications, organized a Continuing Dental Education (CDE) Programme titled “Basics of Research and Intellectual Property Rights” on 08 January 2026 at the SLL Auditorium, RRDCH. The programme aimed to promote scientific research culture among students and
faculty, reinforce foundational research methodology, and provide insights into the legal aspects of innovation through Intellectual Property Rights (IPR).
Topic: “Basics of Research and Intellectual Property Rights”
Speaker: The scientific proceedings commenced with a session by Dr. Murali R. Prof and HOD, KSD , who discussed the considerations involved in selecting an appropriate research topic. The speaker elaborated on identifying research gaps, reviewing literature, feasibility assessment, and ethical aspects, enabling participants to understand the foundational steps of starting structured research work.The second lecture by Dr. Praveen G. HOD, HDC focused on sample size determination for various research designs. The talk covered statistical principles including effect size, power analysis, variability, and research outcomes, reinforcing the significance of accurate sample sizing in ensuring validity and reliability of research conclusions.
The next session was handled by Mr. Anil Kumar J.L, IPR Expert, Lex Orbis and Ms. Meenakshi Chotia, Advocate, IPR, Lex Orbis from Lex Orbis, who provided an introduction to Intellectual Property Rights (IPR). The speakers highlighted patents, copyrights, trademarks, industrial designs, and legal frameworks that protect intellectual output. The session emphasized how IPR supports innovation
and academic advancement through formal recognition and protection. Concluding the academic proceedings, Dr. Balaji P, Prof and HOD, Dept of Research and Publications, RRDCH conducted an interactive discussion on research opportunities and grants. Participants were oriented to available funding bodies, grant proposal requirements, eligibility criteria, and collaborative research possibilities. The session encouraged young researchers to actively explore funded research pathways.

This program was acknowledged and supported by the Management, Dean, Principal and Faculty, postgraduate and undergraduate students, interns and researchers from RRDCH. All the participants co-operated in making this program a grand success.
