The Department of Public Health Dentistry-Rajarajeswari dental college and hospital, Bangalore in association with Department of health and family welfare, Government of Karnataka -District tobacco control unit and The National Tobacco Control Program Unit of Bangalore (NTCP) conducted a mega event on 31st May 2022 on the occasion of NO TOBACCO DAY 2022.

The details of the event are presented below:

1. The morning event started with Planting of Saplings at the Premises of the Primary Health Centre Kumbalgodu by Dr Rajkumar Alle, Principal RRDCH, Dr Padma K Bhat- Head of Dept. of Public Health Dentistry, in the presence of Dignitaries including the Taluk Health officer of Bangalore South, Program Officers from Department of health and family welfare, Government of Karnataka -District tobacco control unit and The National Tobacco Control Program Unit of Bangalore (NTCP).

2. A Rally was undertaken by a team of 70 members including Doctors, Postgraduates, Interns of RRDCH and Personnel from Department of Health And Family Welfare Including Govt. Doctors, ASHA workers and Program officers of NTCP program.

The rally from the PHC along the town of Kumbalgodu and Mysore road was undertaken to create awareness on Ill effects of Tobacco use to the Shop vendors and General public. Slogans were spread with Voice, Banners and Placards. It received very good response and the message was conveyed for benefit of many.

3. The rally was followed by a workshop organized at the Auditorium of Rajarajeswari dental college and hospital. The workshop was based on the theme of No Tobaco Day 2022. The workshop was started with Invocation and Lighting of Lamp.

Dr Rajkumar Alle – Delivered the welcome address for the workshop.

4. The Dignitaries on Stage Included:

• Dr Chetan Kumar – Mental Health Consultant (TCC Unit, Bangalore).
• Dr Nandini .S – Taluk Health officer , Bangalore South
• Dr Bhuvaneshwari – PHC in charge , Kumbalgodu.
• Dr Chanda Kiran Gowda – Consultant, NTCP Bangalore unit.
• Mrs Sahana Patil – Sub-inspector of Police, Kumbalagodu
• Mr Sudhakar- Member of NGO- Raksha Foundation.
• Dr Edwin Devadoss – Dean RRDCH.
• Dr Rajkumar Alle – Principal RRDCH.
• Dr Padma K Bhat- Head of Dept. PHD, RRDCH.

5. Prizes including a memento and certificate were given by the dignitaries to the students who were a part of the POSTER PAINTING competition based on the theme of NO TOBACCO DAY organized by The Department of Public Health Dentistry, RRDCH in assoc. with Department of health and family welfare.

6. This was followed by A workshop by the speaker of the occasion- Dr Chetan Kumar – Mental Health Consultant (TCC Unit, Bangalore). He spoke about the present scenario, Legal frameworks of Tobacco and gave guidelines about how to handle Tobacco cessation.

The whole event including Rally, Poster competition and workshop was well received by all.
