TOPIC-IMPLANTS IN ORAL AND MAXILLOFACIAL SURGERY
Any defect of the face or associated structures may be congenital or acquired. Defects or deformities in the head and facial area may lead to functional and aesthetic disabilities. So the restoration of these defects play a vital role in function and cosmetic outcome. Different retention mechanisms are available, out of which implants have been evolved as the best method of retention with greater level of patient acceptability. Various implants used are the mini plates, mesh framework and reconstruction plates for trauma and fracture fixation. Use of conventional, basal and zygomatic implants for rehabilitation of edentulous spaces and use of temporomandibular joint replacement prosthesis for TMJ ankylosis.The meet aimed to highlight various implants used in OMFS. It was presented by final MDS students of our department.
Dr Sanjeev – spoke about the chin implants in augumenation of chin in patients.
Dr Amit-highlighted the use of titanium mesh framework in trauma cases.
Dr Bhavana- spoke about the use of zygomatic implants in atrophic maxilla.
Dr Sendhil- presented study of 10 cases and 40 cortical implants placement of basal implants in OMFS dept.
Dr Nived – spoke about the use of reconstruction plates in various scenarios.
Dr Charulaxmi- presented about temperomandibular joint replacement.
We shared our experience of using various implants used in field of OMFS in our patients operated by our team.
