Oral cavity is the first component of digestive tract which is delimited by lips anteriorly and oropharynx posteriorly. Oral mucosa has a large number of functions of clinical significance. It acts as a protective, physical and immune barrier from external stimulus and harbors minor salivary glands that secret saliva maintaining the wetness of tissue and perceives and responds to stimulus of touch, temperature and pain. Multiple diseases may affect the oral mucosa and impair its capacity to develop these tasks. Also, abnormal oral mucosa maybe a symptom of mucosal or skin diseases and many systemic conditions. With these background the objectives of the presentation included Differentiate among normal variations and mucosal pathologies for appropriate clinical behavior, diagnosis and treatment plan, Identification of premalignant lesions – for early diagnosis and undertake appropriate measures for prevention and cure and as mouth is a mirror of systemic disease –Oral mucosal lesions can be early manifestation of systemic diseases, so careful examination of oral cavity may reveal findings indicative of underlying systemic condition.
