Pediatric and preventive dentistry provides comprehensive treatment coverage of oral care for infants, children, teenagers, and medically compromised pediatric patients from diagnosis to rehabilitation. The process of leading a child through a dental appointment has been termed as “behavior management”. A shifting paradigm towards the modern world with the adoption and proliferation of digital communication
technology has evoked the need to reconstruct the old conventional behavior guidance techniques. These techniques have led to miraculous advancements for patient care in the smart digital era. Non pharmacologic clinical strategies include Parental presence/absence, Modelling, Tell-Show-Do, Distraction, Positive reinforcement, Desensitization, Aversive conditioning. Recent advances include Film modelling, Modifications of Tell-Show-Do, Ask-Tell-Ask, Tell-Play-Doh, Tell-Show-Play-Doh, Digital games, Audio distraction, Audiovisual distraction, Sensory Adapted Dental Environment (SADE). Primary and comprehensive preventive and therapeutic oral health care is provided for infants and children through adolescence, including those with special health care needs.
